This project was commissioned by the Foundation Holland-Sevilla for > WORLD EXPO SEVILLA 1992. The subject was to portray the "Dutch". I made 14 life-size studio portraits in black and white where the background is constantly sky with clouds, the elements air and water are the most prominent in Holland so it seemed like a logical choice. I was pleased to discover that the architect who designed the dutch pavilion also chose air and water as main elements in his design.
Ten years later, in 2002 I was invited by the > National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden to add another 10 portraits. A selection of the former ones together with the new were exhibited as an outside installation for the exhibition " Anceaux's Glasses", compiled by Linda Roodenburg.
